A wonderfully written and moving story, even if you don't care for comics or their history. Enchanting read.
I read this when it came out, then reread it for a book discussion and couldnt put it down either time. It is so mood evoking that you can almost hear the klesmer music. I cant imagine anyone not liking this book, the story is good and the writing is enchanting. If you like history, especially of the middle of the century, you will eat this with a spoon. Ostensibly this is about the history of comics, but dont let this deter you , it is so much more, running the gamut of manic comedy, to abject tragedy, and characters that you will really love.

You’re left a little baffled by the nature......more

I’m a fan of Michael Chabon even though he carries a man purse. Joe Kavalier is a young artist who had also trained to be a magician and escape artist in Prague. When the Nazis invade in 1939, Joe is able to escape to America with the plan that he’ll find a way to get the rest of his family out. In N......more
