Synopsis

Tom Sawyer's and Huckleberry Finn's adventures are legendary, but what about the story you haven't heard? In 1860, eleven-year-old Becky Thatcher is the new girl in town, determined to have adventures like she promised her brother Jon before he died. Before long, she joins the boys at school in a bet to steal from the Widow Douglas, and Becky convinces her new best friend, Amy Lawrence, to join her. But the theft doesn't go as planned, and Widow Douglas ends up being unfairly accused of grave robbing as a result. So Becky concocts a plan to clear the Widow's name. If she pulls it off, she might just get her Mama to notice her again. That is, if that tattletale Tom Sawyer will quit following her around.

Ask me to list my top five authors, and any day of the week the names will generally change. Except for one. Mark Twain. I was surprised by how much I LOVED The Actual & Truthful Adventures of Becky Thatcher. I think the timing was just right for me to love it. Becky Thatcher is new in town. Her father is a judge. Her mother is a mess. To be fair, her mother is grieving the loss of her son, Jon. Becky and her father m......more

Gave up on. Made it to page 86, thought about skimming ahead, then decided *meh* I just really don't care that much. Very disappointed. LOVED, loved, Nooks and Crannies so I thought that I would love this. Not so much. Will read another book by this author though and give her another chance.......more
