Synopsis

From the bestselling masters of the Old West comes the first in a blazing new series about a young deputy sheriff's coming of age—and trial by gunfire—in a small Texas town. This is the blistering saga of a hero in training, from first blood to final showdown . . .

Flint Moran was fourteen years old when the Civil War ended. He was fifteen when his family bought a plot of land near Tinhorn, Texas. He was barely nineteen when he caught a pair of rustlers stealing cattle—and singlehandedly brought them to justice. How did a teenaged boy track down and capture two hardcase thieves without any help? That's what Tinhorn sheriff Buck Jackson wants to know. He can't help but be impressed by Flint's sharp eye and natural talent with a Henry rifle. So he offers to deputize the boy—tin badge, Colt Frontier Six-Shooter, and all—and Flint happily accepts. But there are things the young deputy doesn't know. And what he doesn't know could kill him . . .

There's a gunman coming to town. A showdown is brewing that could prove to be Flint's first—and possibly last—test. But either way, there will be blood . . .

24-51. Great story about a town named Tinhorn, Sheriff Buck, and a young upstart Flint. I really enjoyed the story, the characters, and the overall quality. I LOVED that there was a woman bad guy who wasn't a prostitute. What a concept that a woman could be a bad guy who wasn't called Ma or was not......more

I'm not one to read a lot of westerns, although I did love all the western TV series as a child. A lot of bad guys got shot, the women were all respectable (even the saloon gals), the good guys brave and handsome. This book reminds me a lot of that. Not literary art by any means, but certainly easy......more

Young Flint Moran leaves the family farm to become a Deputy in the nearby town of Tinhorn. He finds adventures he never dreamed of. With the Sheriff being a bit addicted to the bottle, he is needed more than ever when a gang is set on taking over. The woman is particularly heartless which makes this......more

Not sure what the name of this book meant since it had nothing to do with the story. The main character Flint Moran reminded me a lot of the character Will Tanner. Flint Moran sure is perfect and never screws up. 🙄 Lots of eating in this story. Breakfast, dinner and supper, over and over again. So, is......more
