Synopsis

A tribute to and exploration of the magic behind one of Hollywood’s most legendary and unknowable stars, Keanu Reeves, and the profound lessons we can learn from his successThere can be no doubt: Keanu Reeves is a phenomenon. He’s at once a badass action star, a hunky dreamboat who People magazine has called “the Internet’s boyfriend,” a vintage motorcycle enthusiast, a niche art book publisher, a living meme, and a legend. He seems to upend every rule governing celebrity in the twenty-first century. But how?In Keanu Reeves: Most Triumphant, cultural critic Alex Pappademas attempts to address Keanu’s unmatched eternality and the other big questions raised by his career arc. Sharp, funny, deeply researched, and fully celebratory of the enigmatic actor, this is the first book to take Keanu’s whole deal as seriously as it deserves. Yes, even Johnny Mnemonic, where Keanu mind melds with a dolphin. Along the way, Pappademas reveals the lessons we can learn from Keanu about Hollywood, our broader culture, and even life itself.

The basic premise being that you don't need to interview Keanu to find out who he is. Just look at his work as it has evolved through the decades. I am not a......more

I absolutely loved this book, one of the best pieces of criticism I've ever read. It had a ton of smart things to say about the weird position actors are in trying to be artists and celebrities at the same time, the meaning of work, even suffering. I was a little nervous it would be a gimmicky "[sto......more

I enjoyed this book and it's probably a 3.5 star rating if anything. Nothing over the top and mind-blowing but a nice glimpse at Keanu's career in acting and his life off the screen. He's basically one of the nicest people on the planet, which is amazing since his life has been haunted with tragedy.......more

“Descriptions of scenes from Reeves’s films…help illuminate his earlier and lesser-known roles. Pappademas also frequently notes Reeves’s nonstandard Hollywood personality...Highlighting the cultural moments surrounding Reeves, as well as some of the acting choices that have made him such an intriguing performer over the years, this is a solid addition to any library’s pop culture collection.” Library Journal
