Synopsis

Treasure Island: A Telling for the New World is an eight-hour audio mini-series, based on the classic by R.L. Stevenson. The adaptation resets the story in the Bayous of Louisiana, the Port of New Orleans, and the Caribbean in 1828. This fully dramatized production stars the voices of Keith David as Long John Silver, John Goodman as Billy Bones, and Glynn Turman as the storyteller, along with members of the Firesign Theatre—David Ossman and Phil Proctor. The series features an original score by multiple-Grammy–winner Taj Mahal. Sound Design was supervised by multi-Oscar–winner Randy Thom of Skywalker Sound. Sound design by Matt Schwartz and Tom Ouziel. Writer/Director Orson Ossman produced the series for Otherworld Media.

About Robert Louis Stevenson

Robert Louis Stevenson (1850–1894) was born in Scotland. He studied engineering and law at the University of Edinburgh and then began writing while traveling in France. The publication of Treasure Island in 1883 brought him fame and entered him on a course of romantic fiction beloved by young and old alike.

About Keith David

Keith David is an actor and narrator best known for his roles in the films Crash and There’s Something about Mary. His work with famed documentary filmmaker Ken Burns, including his narration of The War, has earned him an Emmy Award.

About David Ossman

David Ossman, narrator, writer, producer, and character actor, is a founding member of the legendary comedy troupe The Firesign Theatre, which has celebrated its fiftieth anniversary. Funny, prophetic, and groundbreaking Firesign has had an incalculable influence on generations of comics and sound artists. Their album Don’t Crush That Dwarf, Hand Me the Pliers has been inducted into the Library of Congress’ National Recording Registry. With his wife and partner, Judith Walcutt, he continues to create audio magic through their production company Otherworld Media.

About Charles Leggett

Charles Leggett, AudioFile Earphones Award–winning narrator, is based in Seattle where he works onstage at Seattle Repertory Theatre, Seattle Children’s Theatre, ACT, and Seattle Shakespeare Company, among many others. His voice work is also featured in the first two Dungeon Siege video games as well as in Hoyle’s Casino Empire.
