Synopsis

The classic tale of passion on the high seas, available in print for the first time in 20 years . . . Merry Wilding is a lady of breeding, of innocence, and of breathtaking beauty. With high hopes for a holiday in England, she sets sail from New York-but the tide of her life is destined to turn. Mistakenly swept aboard an infamous pirate ship, Merry finds herself at the mercy of a wicked crew . . . and one sinfully handsome pirate. Soon she's spending her days yearning for escape, and her nights learning the pleasures of captivity.Devon Crandall believes Merry is in league with his greatest enemy. He's determined to slowly urge her secrets from her. But along the way, he discovers her beautifully unbreakable spirit . . . and a desire unlike any he's ever known. She is hiding something from him, and yet, each day that passes brings her deeper into his heart. When fierce arguments give way to fiercer passion, can a pirate learn to love a woman? Or will true love be lost at sea?

Yes, this novel was written during a different time... the 1980s, when so often the heroine was depicted as the naive, innocent teenager. But, I suppose they were naive and innocent in the Regency area, at least women from this class, despite the expectation of early marriage. And, yes, the hero seems abusive at times, common more in 80s romances. However, the novel is so beautifully written, all the characters so carefully crafted, that I could not help but fall passionately in love with them. And, they grow and develop as human beings! Not common often in more modern novels. This novel was just gorgeous...and Im waiting on tender hooks for a sequel for Cat. Of course, Ive been waiting for nearly 30 years! Most I still hope! I disagree strongly with an earlier review that said Merry should have ended up with Cat. That person admitted she did not finish the book. All three characters grow as people in the novel, and Cat who also is just 18, but has had a ROUGH life develops because of his relationship with Merry an ability to form relationships, including a connection with someone significant at the end of the book. You leave this lovely story with the sense that Cat is now ready to take an emotional risk. Sequel, please! I also wouldnt mind, Tom and Sharon Curtis aka, Laura London a novel about Morgan. What a fascinating character!
