Synopsis

The scandalous widow . . . and the curate?

Newly widowed, wicked Kate Crowmore is in trouble. Scandal has broken over her head and someone is trying to kill her. When she seeks refuge in Blackhaven, she doesn't expect a clergyman to be the solution to both these problems!

Tristram Grant is not just any clergyman. The cast-off, illegitimate son of an earl, and a one-time army officer of great promise, the charismatic new curate is making his mark in Blackhaven. As soon as he sees the beautiful, defiant Kate, he sets his heart on her. And he is used to achieving his goals. But Kate, finally free of a disastrous marriage that almost broke her, has no intention of marrying anyone ever again—supposing she survives the attempts on her life.

Grant's courtship, like his pursuit of her enemies, is unorthodox, fun, and curiously seductive. However, he has secrets of his own and when he deliberately frees a French prisoner of war, Kate realizes he could be more dangerous than she imagined.

Then, as if life isn't complicated enough, her old scandal catches us with her again, in the shape of Lord Vernon, whom the world imagines is her lover—and he wants to marry her too . . .

About Mary Lancaster

Mary Lancaster lives in Scotland with her husband, three mostly grown-up kids, and a small, crazy dog.

Her first literary love was historical fiction, a genre which she relishes mixing up with romance and adventure in her own writing. Several of her novels feature actual historical characters as diverse as Hungarian revolutionaries, medieval English outlaws, and a family of eternally rebellious royal Scots. To say nothing of Vlad the Impaler.

She writes light, fun Regency romances: the Imperial Season series set at the Congress of Vienna and the popular Blackhaven Brides series, which is set in a fashionable English spa town frequented by the great and the bad of Regency society.

Lady Kate Crowmore, the sarcastic vixen we met in Book 1 of this series is suddenly a widow with a wicked, if undeserved, reputation. Tristam Grant, the somewhat mysterious new curate, is determined to crack her icy shell and woo the delectable widow against all reason and good sense. I adored this st......more

A sometimes campy, lust-at-first-sight tale. Tristram Grant, the curate with a secret past, meets the scandalous widow, Lady Crowmore, who has fled London for relatively quiet Blackhaven. She has developed a persona to match her reputation, even though she's innocent of the rumors about her. She's a......more

This is book two in the Blackhaven Brides series. We have our heroine, Lady Kate Crowmore who is a widow and our hero Tristram Grant who is the town curate. These two characters are so different from each other, but at the same time perfect for one another. He realizes she has been misjudged in her......more

Wickedly wonderful! This is the story of Lady Kate, a widow of wicked repute, and Grant, a bastard son and country curate. Kate may or might not be as wicked as all that, and Grant may have seen a bit more of the world than an average clergyman. The sparks between these two, and the banter were perfe......more
