I do not remember learning that an author had not learned how to read herself until the age of 11. But that was the case with author, Julie Garwood. She missed so much school with having a tonsillectomy at age six, the nobody realized that she did not complete her education in reading, and was not discovered until age 11. Amazing that the same child would grow up as Julie Garwood, a very successful American author. Her Irish heritage was an important force in her growing, as well as adult years. She also contributes her success to being the sixth of seven children. She says that relatively early she discovered that to be noticed in such a large family, her self-expression had to be "forceful, imaginative, and quick"!!!
Garwood's loyal readers seem to enjoy her poignant sense of humor, just as well as her ability to steer her readers toward crying and falling in love. Her mission with each book is to transport her readers to another world, after which they will feel like they have been in a great adventure.
Through local writer's conferences, Garwood met her future agent, even though she had never intended to become a professional writer. She lives in Leawood Kansas, and is currently writing tell notes for her next novel.
Does anyone know if there is another book after The Wedding to go with the first 2? Sounds like the sister Grace might be the next one?
Sheesh, it sucked to be a woman back in these days. I know, I say that a lot. But, it really really sucked to be a woman back then. First, her father basically sells her to be married to some asshole they've never met and the father only tells her hours before she is sent to her new husband that thi......more
While I liked this one too I didn't like it as much as the first one. The heroine was just to much of a push over trying to please people and it bugged me but other than that a cute read!......more
2.5 stars I wasn’t a huge fan of this one or I guess my historical romance fever has finally been broken and I’m now ready to go back to the 21st century books. The heroine was just a pushover and I prefer my HR heroines to be sassy and spirited. This one annoyed the hell out of me. I didn’t like the......more
Julie Garwood at her finest. This is probably one of my favorite books of all time. I loved Brenna and I LOVED Connor. I think I've probably read this book 50 times. I wish Garwood still wrote like this.......more
I keep asking myself why this is my favorite Garwood book even though it's rarely anyone's favorite. After re-reading it, I finally found a conclusion. With Brenna's bubbly attitude, the humor and banters, and Connor's need to avenge and protect, this is exactly what I look for in a comfort HR book.......more
