Synopsis

Twenty-four-year-old Rachel Vinrace is launched into a journey of self-discovery when she embarks on a sea voyage to South America with her aunt and uncle. Originally from a London suburb, she meets a menagerie of interesting people while on the trip and strikes up life-changing conversations with them. Her passion is to tell good stories, regardless of the medium. An L.A. Drama Critics Award Winner and an L.A. Weekly Award Winner, she holds a BA in theatre and is originally from St. Paul, Minnesota.

How flimsy are the accroutrements of civilisation in the face of nature. It’s like it took Virginia a third of this novel to get out of her Victorian stays, chemises, petticoats and corsets. Once she shakes off all the Victorian trappings though she moves with beautiful poise and clarity of purpose.......more
