Synopsis

Workaholic attorney Samantha Sweeting has just done the unthinkable. She’s made a mistake so huge, it’ll wreck any chance of a partnership.

Going into utter meltdown, she walks out of her London office, gets on a train, and ends up in the middle of nowhere. Asking for directions at a big, beautiful house, she’s mistaken for an interviewee and finds herself being offered a job as housekeeper. Her employers have no idea they’ve hired a lawyer–and Samantha has no idea how to work the oven. She can’t sew on a button, bake a potato, or get the #@%# ironing board to open. How she takes a deep breath and begins to cope–and finds love–is a story as delicious as the bread she learns to bake.

But will her old life ever catch up with her? And if it does…will she want it back?

About Sophie Kinsella

I think I could have written a series of books on being a Shopaholic, but British author Sophie Kinsella had beat me to it. In 2000, she had her big hit novel, the first in the Shopaholic series.....The Secret Dreamworld of a Shopaholic. The great irony is that the book's main character is Becky Bloomwood, who is a financial journalist who should be giving sensible money spending and saving advice. However, she loves to shop, and is hopeless with money! It struck a nerve with many readers around the world. The other books in the series are: Shopaholic Abroad (Shopaholic Takes Manhattan), Shopaholic Ties the Knot, Shopaholic and Sister, Shopaholic and Baby, Mini Shopaholic, Shopaholic to the Stars, and Shopaholic to the Rescue. Her first novel in the series was produced as a movie by Disney as, Confessions
of a Shopaholic.

Other books she has written include: Can You Keep a Secret?, The Undomestic Goddess, Remember Me?, Twenties Girl, I've Got Your Number, Wedding Night, My Not So Perfect Life, and Surprise Me. Her latest work is I Owe You, which is described as being empowering.

Sophie lives in London with her husband, Henry Wickham, four sons and a daughter.

this book was ok. Kinsella leaves the reader hanging at the end. For Chick-lit and something lite to read this book fit the bill. some of the ideas seemed a little extreme and far fetched but it was good none the less.

I ended up throwing the book across the room in disgust. Too far fetched and not believeable, with no character development. Predictable and just not worth the time, and for trashy summer read type book, it could at least give you a real ending.

this book had a slow start, but warmed up with the character's charm and story wit. the story seemed to circle around a few too many times, but was still an enjoyable light read

I needed something light and one that did not need a lot of intense concentration. This was a perfect choice. It was a cute and very quick read and made me laugh several times. How can Samantha get herself into such messes? I enjoyed it.

Sophie Kinsella strikes again! Although most of her books deal with both the professional world and relationships, she has managed to make every story unique and immensely entertaining. Although I didn't enjoy this novel quite as much as I've Got Your Number, it still immediately sucked me in and wo......more

As you’d expect, the story is a sitcom come to life: a work-obsessed attorney loses her job in a dramatic way and then plunges alone into the countryside à la Jane Eyre, only to wind up being taken in as a housekeeper by some nouveau riche couple. The twist is. . . get ready. . . she doesn’t know ho......more

Over achieving high powered lawyer Sam has a spectacular fall from grace and in the calamitous tines that ensues, ends up being sort of accidently hired as a housekeeper… there's just the slight problem that she has no idea how to cook, clean, iron etc. A typical 'chic-lit' Noughties read with the a......more
