Synopsis

In this book, Nietzsche examines and critiques many of the prominent ideas and figures of his time, including morality, religion, and philosophy itself. Nietzsche argues that traditional moral concepts, such as good and evil, are based on outdated and irrational beliefs that hinder the individual's pursuit of a fulfilling life. He also criticizes Christianity and its values, claiming that they are hostile to life and undermine individual freedom. Furthermore, Nietzsche criticizes the philosophical traditions of the past, including Platonism and Kantianism, for their limitations and inability to provide a meaningful framework for life. Instead, Nietzsche proposes a new philosophy, which he calls "the philosophy of the future," that embraces life's complexity and encourages the individual to create their own values. Read in English, unabridged.

About Friedrich Nietzsche

Friedrich Nietzsche (1844-1900) was a German philosopher and philologist whose best-known works include Thus Spoke Zarathustra; Ecce Homo; Human, All Too Human; and Beyond Good and Evil. Much of his work is characterized by radical questioning of the value and objectivity of truth and criticism of traditional ideals of morality. Nietzsche's writings were significant influences on the existentialist, nihilist, and postmodernist schools of thought, as well as on the work of such later writers as Herman Hesse, Albert Camus, Sigmund Freud, and Jean-Paul Sartre.

Holy shit. Never have I seen such a relentless and unapologetic beat-down of a man as with Nietzsche's assessment of Wagner and his music in 'The Case of Wagner'. Having not read anything in the way of a rebuttal from Wagner this essay reads like the metaphorical representation of what happens when an......more

Continuous claims without proof. He claims much about the supposed opposition Wagner has to Nietzschean ideals but never truly explains why. Why does the leitmotif contradict a unified message? Why why why? Neither convincing nor a particularly enjoyable read, reads much more like a blogpost written......more
