Synopsis

In this third Drury Lane novel, the elderly detective is aided by Patience Thumm in the investigation of the mysterious death of a corrupt state senator. Senator Fawcett, a man with many enemies, is found stabbed to death in his study. Patience and her father, Inspector Thumm, try to unravel the web of circumstantial evidence that has enmeshed an innocent man. Patience refuses to be beaten by a lack of evidence and, with the help of Drury Lane, finally stops an execution and brings the true criminal to justice.

About Ellery Queen

Ellery Queen is a pseudonym used by two American cousins from Brooklyn—Daniel Nathan, alias Frederic Dannay (1905–1982), and Manford (Emanuel) Lepofsky, alias Manfred Bennington Lee (1905–1971)—to write detective fiction. In a successful series of novels that covered forty-two years, Ellery Queen served as both the authors’ name and that of the detective-hero. The cousins also cofounded and directed Ellery Queen’s Mystery Magazine, one of the most influential English crime-fiction magazines of the twentieth century. They were given the Grand Master Award for achievements in the field of the mystery story by the Mystery Writers of America in 1961.

It wasn't hat something was missing, it was that a lot of somethings were missing. I enjoyed Quacey's character and his contributions in Tragedy of X. He was less present in Y a......more

The third of the four Drury Lane detections written by "Ellery Queen" under Dannay/Lee's (far) lesser known pseudonym Barnaby Ross, and done in a different style from that they used in the first two, The Tragedy of X and The Tragedy of Y; possibly for that reason, but only possibly, this is the one......more
