Synopsis

A beautiful English lady falls for a Scottish highlander in this delightful historical romance from #1 New York Times bestselling author Julie Garwood.Judith Hampton was as beautiful as she was proud and loyal. Her dear Scottish friend from childhood was about to give birth, and Judith had promised to be at her side. But there was another, private reason for the journey from her bleak English home to the Highlands: to meet the father she had never known, the Laird Maclean. Nothing prepared her, however, for the sight of the Scottish barbarian who was to escort her into his land...Iain Maitland, Laird of his clan, a man more powerfully compelling than any she had ever encountered. In a spirited clash of wills and customs, Judith reveled in the melting bliss of Iain's searching kisses, his passionate caresses. Perplexed by her sprightly defiance, bemused by her tender nature, Iain felt his soul growing into the light and warmth of her love. Surely nothing would wrench her from the affection and trust of Iain and his clan...not even the truth about her father, a devastating secret that could shatter the boldest alliance, and the most glorious of loves!

About Julie Garwood

I do not remember learning that an author had not learned how to read herself until the age of 11. But that was the case with author, Julie Garwood. She missed so much school with having a tonsillectomy at age six, the nobody realized that she did not complete her education in reading, and was not discovered until age 11. Amazing that the same child would grow up as Julie Garwood, a very successful American author. Her Irish heritage was an important force in her growing, as well as adult years. She also contributes her success to being the sixth of seven children. She says that relatively early she discovered that to be noticed in such a large family, her self-expression had to be "forceful, imaginative, and quick"!!!

Garwood's loyal readers seem to enjoy her poignant sense of humor, just as well as her ability to steer her readers toward crying and falling in love. Her mission with each book is to transport her readers to another world, after which they will feel like they have been in a great adventure.

Through local writer's conferences, Garwood met her future agent, even though she had never intended to become a professional writer. She lives in Leawood Kansas, and is currently writing tell notes for her next novel.

This book was sooooooooo good! This is my first book by Julie Garwood. I loved her characters, and I loved the devoted friendship between Judith and Francis Catherine. There wasn't the constant love/hate relationship usually found in romance novels. It was just a wonderful love story. I didn't want to put this book down. You know you are reading a good book when you can't wait start reading more. I have added a bunch of Julie Garowood's books to my list. I can't wait to read her next book.

The Secret, the 1st book in the Highlands' Lairds series, is now tied as my favorite Julie Garwood book with The Bride. I loved this one so much. It starts out so cute with two little girls, one Scottish, on English becoming friends. Judith and Frances Catherine were just so damn cute. Their friends......more

Reread #2 (3/20/2021) This book still has the best female friendship ever! The wedding scene was hilarious. Iain and Judith are the best and I love them so much. The plot is perfect and I enjoyed the underlying feminism subplot in it. It was all just so good and so entertaining and I’m pretty sure I......more

There was a lot to love about this book, but I think my favorite thing was the friendship between our heroine and her bestie. They grew up seeing each other once a year and had that kind of loyalty that only comes with being best girlfriends. When our heroine's bestie, Frances Catherine, becomes preg......more
