Synopsis

Some fears come from the outside. Others grow quietly inside the mind, watching, waiting, and learning every weakness. The Parasite is a chilling psychological science-fiction tale in which a man becomes convinced that another intelligence is sharing his thoughts—an unseen presence that feeds on emotion and desire while remaining perfectly beyond reach. As the pressure mounts, reason and reassurance offer little protection. Friendship, love, and even self-control begin to feel dangerous when nothing inside the mind is truly private anymore. Clarke blends quiet dread with philosophical speculation, exploring guilt, voyeurism, and the terrifying idea that the future itself may be watching us. The result is a story that unsettles without spectacle, building tension through conversation, implication, and a steadily narrowing sense of escape.Arthur C. Clarke was one of the defining voices of twentieth-century science fiction, celebrated for combining scientific imagination with deep moral and psychological insight. In The Parasite, Clarke turns away from rockets and planets to examine a more intimate frontier: the human mind itself. The story showcases his talent for making cosmic ideas feel personal, disturbing, and impossible to forget.
