James Thurber was born in Columbus, Ohio, in 1894. Famous for his humorous writings and illustrations, he was a staff member of The New Yorker for more than thirty years. He died in 1961.

although I see the appeal of Thurber's humour, his casual misogyny paired with Olberman's screaming-at-the-top-of-his-lungs declamatory style made this a less than stellar experience.......more

It's a fun read, even if some of the references may feel a bit dated. His worldview and style reflect the world of the mid-twentieth century and provide a glimpse into that era. I don’t want to discourage people from reading this book by giving it only two stars, but it had only a few stories that I found really funny. (The Night the Bed Fell is one.)
