Synopsis

A NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER

A revolutionary, science-backed approach to living well that “will change lives” (Arianna Huffington) from ABC News chief medical correspondent and cardiologist Dr. Tara Narula that bridges the gap between our physical and mental health to show how resilience is the key to both.

Over the course of her career as a cardiologist and ABC News chief medical correspondent, Dr. Tara Narula noticed a critical gap in patient care: while medicine excels at treating the body, it often overlooks the mental and emotional strength needed to heal. Heart disease, the number one cause of death in the United States, is often met with several common prescriptions—but there is one treatment that is consistently overlooked: resilience.

That’s where this paradigm-shifting book comes in, connecting the worlds of medicine and psychology. Its application goes beyond heart disease to other difficult diagnoses and traumatic health events, and overall well-being. Through groundbreaking scientific research, medical journalism, and compelling personal stories, The Healing Power of Resilience reveals how resilience can improve both physical and emotional well-being. Dr. Narula introduces the “Resilience Response,” a practical framework for developing acceptance, adaptability, courage, purpose, hope, connection, and self-compassion. The result is a transformative and “potentially life changing” (Booklist) new approach to living well—whether you’re facing a health challenge or simply striving for a healthier life at any age.
