Synopsis

Rina Lazarus and her husband, LAPD Homicide Lieutenant Peter Decker, are shocked by an outrage that cuts close to the spiritual heart of their family. Rina's small storefront synagogue has been desecrated with anti-Semitic graffiti and grisly Nazi death camp photographs. The alleged perpetrator is seventeen-year-old Ernesto Golding, a ""rich kid"" obsessed with haunting suspicions about the origins of his Polish paternal grandfather. Then Ernesto is found brutally murdered, along with his therapist, Dr. Mervin Baldwin, at an exclusive nature camp that caters moneyed, troubled children. For Decker and his wife, unraveling the truth behind Ernesto's violent death becomes more terrifying with each sinister twist. For lethal secrets with roots in the horrors of a past genteration are coming to the surface, propelling Peter and Rina into a ghastly world of ruthless parents and damaged youth -- and toward a dark evil and its ultimate retribution.

About Faye Kellerman

Mystery author, Faye Kellerman, not only writes amazing, best-selling mysteries, but is married to famous author, Jonathan Kellerman. The pair of authors is the only married couple to have been on The New York Times best seller list at the same time. An awesome accomplishment for sure. And, to make it even better, their oldest child, Jesse Kellerman is a best-selling novelist and award winning playwright. Their youngest, a daughter, Aliza Kellerman, co-wrote Prism, a novel for young adults, with her mother. Keeping it in the family.

Faye Kellerman's early history is a very interesting one. She actually received a B.A. in mathematics, and then earned her Doctorate of Dental Surgery. Even though she fully intended to be a dentist, she never practiced even one day in the dental profession. She first became a housewife and mother, then developed her writing career.

Faye Kellerman has well over twenty million copies of her novels in circulation. The Decker/Lazarus thrillers are among her most successful works. They include such titles as: Sacred and Profane; Milk and Honey; Day of Atonement; Justice; Prayers for the Dead, and many others. She has also received awards for her collection of short stories. As if all that writing and creating were not enough, she also has hobbies of gardening, sewing, and jogging. She has four children, and lives in Los Angeles and Santa Fe.

Upon being asked how an educated Dentist becomes an accomplished, award winning author, she said it was... a desire for justice, a suspicious nature, an overactive imagination, and of course, a penchant for the bizarre.

Faye Kellerman is definitely the No 1-crime fiction writer of today, and ranks up there with the best novelists of police and crime thrillers. She has not in any way lost any of her talent for keeping the reader glued to the book, and opening up a world of intrigue and mystery. This book proves Keller......more

How can I put this? I finished the book, the first one by this author in a series, but wasn’t wowed. The book begins with desecration of a shul, leading to the investigation of hate groups. There was a smattering of looks into the private life of the lead detective, but the story sort of dragged alo......more

I had stopped reading Faye Kellerman's Decker/Lazarus series because it had become too much like her husband's Alex Delaware series which I can't read anymore. As much as I like the protagonists of both series, their cases are too dark for me. I read an interview with Faye Kellerman in which she sai......more

This started out with some promise--she's not a bad writer for a bestseller mystery author, and the character development was decent. However, the story got more and more implausible as it went on. The killer's supposed motive was hopelessly weak and totally didn't justify the killing spree, and the......more
