I do not remember learning that an author had not learned how to read herself until the age of 11. But that was the case with author, Julie Garwood. She missed so much school with having a tonsillectomy at age six, the nobody realized that she did not complete her education in reading, and was not discovered until age 11. Amazing that the same child would grow up as Julie Garwood, a very successful American author. Her Irish heritage was an important force in her growing, as well as adult years. She also contributes her success to being the sixth of seven children. She says that relatively early she discovered that to be noticed in such a large family, her self-expression had to be "forceful, imaginative, and quick"!!!
Garwood's loyal readers seem to enjoy her poignant sense of humor, just as well as her ability to steer her readers toward crying and falling in love. Her mission with each book is to transport her readers to another world, after which they will feel like they have been in a great adventure.
Through local writer's conferences, Garwood met her future agent, even though she had never intended to become a professional writer. She lives in Leawood Kansas, and is currently writing tell notes for her next novel.
This was a good book by Julie Garwood. I'm noticing the heroine of her stories seems to always be sweet and completely devoted to her man. This is the story of Jamie and Alec. Alec is a scottish laird and Jamie is a simple English girl. Their kings forced them to wed eachother. Jamie is a cute character and Alec is strong. This was a quick read for me and it didn't drag. There is not a lot of history told in the book. I was glad. I hate reading a romance book jam packed with tons of dates and historical events. If I wanted that, I would read a history book. I am looking forward to reading more books by this author.
*** 5/19/19: On sale on US Amazon right now for $1.99*** This is one of my ALL-TIME TOP FAVORITE historical romance books. I actually have the pink flowered paperback version - which was released in 1989 - and I think I first read it when I was 12 years old...in 1995. Let's just say that my Dad had NO......more
5 Lady Kincaid Stars The Bride is the first book I have read from Julie Garwood and I loved it. I loved the set up, the plot, and love Jamie and Alec! I love me some sexy Scottish highland romances and this one was great. From the start Alec shined. He was so sexy, cocky and 100% bad ass Scottish......more
4.5 stars I love how simple and addictive Julie Garwood’s writing is! Her books are just so easy to read, they totally suck me in to the point of being unable to put them down. This was such an enjoyable HR that includes arranged marriage between an English woman and a highlander, a sassy heroine with......more
3.5 Stars Overall Opinion:I enjoyed this one! I rarely say this, but I floved the h! She had all the character traits that I enjoy to read about. Sadly, I didn't connect to the H as much. He was enjoyable at times, but for the most part I feel like we didn't get a full glimpse into who he was suppos......more
