Synopsis

From the #1 New York Times bestselling author of The Party Crasher and Love Your Life comes a witty and emotionally charged novel that delves into the heart of a marriage, and how those we love and think we know best can sometimes surprise us the most

“Sophie Kinsella keeps her finger on the cultural pulse, while leaving me giddy with laughter.”—Jojo Moyes, author of The Giver of Stars and The Last Letter from Your Lover

After ten years together, Sylvie and Dan have a comfortable home, fulfilling jobs, and beautiful twin girls, and they communicate so seamlessly they finish each other’s sentences. They have a happy marriage and believe they know everything there is to know about each other. Until it’s casually mentioned to them that they could be together for another sixty-eight years . . . and panic sets in.

They decide to bring surprises into their marriage to keep it fresh and fun. But in their pursuit of Project Surprise Me—from unexpected gifts to restaurant dates to sexy photo shoots—mishaps arise, with disastrous and comical results. Gradually, surprises turn to shocking truths. And when a scandal from the past is uncovered, they begin to wonder if they ever really knew each other at all.

With a colorful cast of eccentric characters, razor-sharp observations, and her signature wit and charm, Sophie Kinsella presents a humorous yet moving portrait of a marriage—its intricacies, comforts, and complications. Surprise Me reveals that hidden layers in a close relationship are often yet to be discovered.

About Sophie Kinsella

I think I could have written a series of books on being a Shopaholic, but British author Sophie Kinsella had beat me to it. In 2000, she had her big hit novel, the first in the Shopaholic series.....The Secret Dreamworld of a Shopaholic. The great irony is that the book's main character is Becky Bloomwood, who is a financial journalist who should be giving sensible money spending and saving advice. However, she loves to shop, and is hopeless with money! It struck a nerve with many readers around the world. The other books in the series are: Shopaholic Abroad (Shopaholic Takes Manhattan), Shopaholic Ties the Knot, Shopaholic and Sister, Shopaholic and Baby, Mini Shopaholic, Shopaholic to the Stars, and Shopaholic to the Rescue. Her first novel in the series was produced as a movie by Disney as, Confessions
of a Shopaholic.

Other books she has written include: Can You Keep a Secret?, The Undomestic Goddess, Remember Me?, Twenties Girl, I've Got Your Number, Wedding Night, My Not So Perfect Life, and Surprise Me. Her latest work is I Owe You, which is described as being empowering.

Sophie lives in London with her husband, Henry Wickham, four sons and a daughter.

Love is finding one person infinitely fascinating. And so... not an achievement, my dear. Rather, a privilege. Hi, long time Sophie Kinsella/Madeleine Wickam fan here. I've been reading her books for close to a decade now; they are just the right amounts of tender cheese (and that's a good thing so d......more

Entertaining, but not my favorite Sophie Kinsella. I really like the premise of Surprise Me--rather than the typical Kinsella premise of a single girl trying to get her life together and in doing so ultimately finds love, we have a married couple worried that their marriage has gone stale. While th......more

This is a well-done novel that starts off with a light, chick-lit tone. Sometimes you just need a book that has a humorous take on life and love. After Dan and Sylvie, who have been together for ten years since they were twenty-two, are told by their doctor they can each live to be one hundred, they......more

Listened to this which I always recommend with all of Sophie's books! I really wanted to fall in love with this book but it fell a little short for me. The first half was annoying, honestly and I had a hard time connecting with the characters. The second half was much better and I really loved it. Ove......more
