Synopsis

Exposition of the Sermon on the Mount, Volume 1, originally published in Pink’s monthly Studies in the Scriptures. As in all his writings, Pink clearly and accurately describes the truth of Jesus’ teaching to the multitudes so many years ago, and how His teaching is still very relevant to us today.

Volume 1 covers the entire fifth chapter of Matthew: the Beatitudes, the Ministerial Office, and Christ’s explaining the original intent of the Law (correcting the many misunderstandings and perversions of the Scribes and Pharisees). Then the thorough examination of the Law and what it says about: Murder, Adultery, Oaths, Retaliation, and Love.

About Arthur W. Pink

Arthur Walkington Pink (1886–1952) was one of the most influential evangelical authors in the second half of the twentieth century. He was born in England and converted in his twenties. He served as a pastor in Colorado and other locations until he decided to concentrate on writing and speaking at conferences. The next year he started a monthly magazine, Studies in the Scriptures, which he edited until his death. His writing focused on biblical living and sparked a revival of expository preaching. His works include The Attributes of God, The Patience of God, and The Satisfaction of Christ, among many others.

Due to length constraints and the practical focus of the volume, there are some themes and concepts that are not as thoroughly explored as they could be. Notably, there is very little exploration of the s......more

A helpful, pastoral exposition of the Sermon on the Mount from a trustworthy source. “When God leads us to see that this is our real condition before him, and we recognise this to be so, then poverty of spirit is born in our hearts. Undeceived at last, we see that our only hope is in the Lord.”......more
