Synopsis

An inexplicable explosion rocks the antiquities collection of a London museum and the race begins to determine how it happened, why it happened, and what it means.Lady Kara Kensington's family paid a high price in money and blood to found the gallery that now lies in ruins. Her search for answers leads Kara and her friend Safia al-Maaz, the gallery's curator, into a world they never dreamed existed. Evidence exposed by the tragedy suggests that Ubar, a lost city buried beneath the Arabian desert, is more than mere legend...and that something astonishing is waiting there. The two extraordinary women and their guide, Omaha Dunn, are not the only ones being drawn to the desert. Former U.S. Navy SEAL Painter Crowe, a covert government operative and head of an elite counter-espionage team, is hunting down a dangerous turncoat and the trail is pointing him toward Ubar. What is hidden below the sand is more than a valuable relic of ancient history. It is an ageless power that lives and breathes. Many lives have already been destroyed by ruthless agencies dedicated to guarding its mysteries and harnessing its might. The end may be at hand for Kara, Safia, Crowe, and all of the interlopers who wish to expose its mysteries, as it prepares to unleash the most terrible storm of all...Performed by Dennis Boutsikaris

About James Rollins

Veterinary Medicine is a very time consuming, stressful profession, especially for the owner of the veterinary practice. Author, James Rollins (aka James Paul Czajkowski) began his adult career with a DVM degree from the University of Missouri in 1985. He was then working as many as 18 hours a day, while writing on his lunch time, or any spare minutes he might find. For ten years he operated his practice, employing as many as 24 staff personnel, continuing to write during spare moments. One day, he decided to reverse the job and hobby routine. He began writing full time and spent a day or so per week volunteering to do neuter surgeries at the local SPCA.

Rollins began his storytelling very early as a child, so it came naturally to him by the time he made it his main career. His writing gives the reader a look into unseen worlds, mostly underground or underwater. His books are full of originality, scientific breakthroughs, as well as historical insight. All of this packed into a fast paced story line that is honed using his basic knowledge of science and medicine. That skill sets James Rollin's books apart from the others. He is a #1 New York Times bestselling author of international thrillers that are translated into over forty languages. His "Sigma" series is his most popular.

Sandstorm started out in London with a literal bang and ended with a storm of supposedly epic proportions in an ancient desert city. But by the time it did, I didn't care anymore. All I saw was a swirly world of sand, glass, and static electricity populated by cardboard characters. The good ones wou......more

Sandstorm is the first Sigma Force novel written by James Rollins. I've seen his name around many times in the past, and years ago, I devoured a bunch of these types of novels... for some reason, I hadn't picked up his. Now that I'm back in the mood for archaeological thrillers with elements of natu......more

This is the first of James Rollins's "Sigma Force" novels. This is different than most of the books that are in my book list, quite different in some cases. It's basically an action movie in book form, but it's a good one, like Indiana Jones style. And Rollins seems to know that it's that kind of ad......more

Simply put, I love this guy's work. Less "bromantic" than Clive Cussler and more accessible than Micheal Crichton, both of whom I do enjoy, his tales are just fun, adventurous, and often educational. I wanted to read the Sigma Force books in order, so it took me a while until I could track down the......more

Here's the thing about James Rollins - his books are utterly predictable and he is just unable to create any type of suspense or intrigue. I've read multiple Rollins books and they are all pretty much the same. They are the epitome of the books that you see on endcaps at your local pharmacy or groce......more
