Goodreads review by Andrew

Not part of the Matt Scudder series but rather a short story, first published in a collection entitled The Night and The Music ( 2012). Matt’s friend, Mick Ballou, is closing down his Hells Kitchen saloon, called Grogan’s Open House. It’s situated at the corner of Tenth Avenue and Fiftieth Street, N......more

Not a crime story but an epilogue to the series. This is one short story that hasn't appeared anywhere else. Not for anyone by a fan of the series since it's just a long stretched dialog piece that Block is so fond of.......more

Only as the author could have told it. It's what weighs all about. Twenty more words required. Well I'm not Lawrence Block so I'll let my opening two sentences say all that's needed.......more

Quotes

“A quicker, more enjoyable read you won’t find. Veteran Scudder fans will rejoice at sharing his adventures again. May Block—and Scudder—never retire.” Library Journal, praise for the collected short stories

“Matthew Scudder, his wife, Elaine, Mick Ballou, and Mick’s new wife sit around a table in Mick’s Hell’s Kitchen saloon for one last night of stories before the building is transferred to its new owners.” Amblingbooks.com

“[These Matthew Scudder short] stories could serve as either a companion to the books, if you’ve read them, or an introduction to the characters if you have not. However, if this is the first exposure you have to Scudder, I encourage you to read a bit more before taking in “One Last Night at Grogan’s.” This story is a touching cap to the characters and story lines. If there are no more Scudder tales to be told, this is the perfect ending.” CrimeFiction Lover.com
