Synopsis

Mr. and Mrs. Watson’s porcine wonder, Mercy, loves nothing more than a ride in the car. It takes a fair amount of nudging and bribing and a “You are such a good sport, darling” to get the portly pig out of the driver’s seat, but once the convertible is on the road, Mercy loves the feel of the wind tickling her ears and the sun on her snout.

About The Author

Kate DiCamillo is the author of Because of Winn-Dixie (a Newbery Honor book), The Tiger Rising (a National Book Award finalist), and The Tale of Despereaux (a Newbery Medal Winner). She recently completed a series of early chapter books about a pig named Mercy Watson. The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane was the winner of the Boston Globe–Horn Book Award. Kate lives and writes in Minneapolis, Minnesota, but she spent much of her childhood in Florida.Ron McLarty graduated from Rhode Island College in 1969, and started his theatre career shortly thereafter. A well known Broadway and TV actor, he is one of also the country’s leading audiobook narrators, having done over 100 titles, including the narration of books authored by Stephen King, Danielle Steel, Richard Russo, Elmore Leonard, Ed McBain, David Baldacci, Scott Turow, and George W. Bush’s memoir Decision Points. McLarty has also written his own books, among them the novels Traveler, The Memory of Running, and Art in America.

What a fun beginning reader story this was. Mercy is such a fun character and the story is so zany. I mean it is pure fun. Obviously, Mercy goes for a ride in a pink convertible with Mr. Watson and that pig wants to drive. Mrs. Watson is still fixing buttered toast and the neighbors are still quirky......more

I always brought these home when working in the library, and this was a family favorite. Kids books that I enjoyed reading, too. (Ok, I enjoy most of them, to be fair, but anything by Kate DiCamillo you cannot go wrong with.)......more
