Synopsis

The epic, multivolume Outlander saga is the starting point for a brilliant new series that begins with the novel Lord John and the Private Matter. Filled with intrigue and mystery and starring one of the most popular Outlander characters, Lord John Grey, this fresh new tale is utterly captivating. In a richly drawn 18th-century London, Scottish exile Lord John faces a difficult situation. His cousin Olivia is engaged to marry the Honorable Joseph Trevelyan, but he has just observed something of a rather personal nature that, if confirmed, might put an end to any talk of marital bliss. Determined to investigate further, Lord John is distracted when the Crown calls for his services. A comrade in arms has been slain, and to complicate matters, the victim may have been a traitor. Now Lord John has not one, but two puzzling mysteries to solve.

About Diana Gabaldon

American author, Diana J. Gabaldon, grew up in Flagstaff Arizona, where her father, Tony Gabaldon, served as an Arizona State Senator for sixteen years. Author Gabaldon received degrees from Northern Arizona University, and the University of California. Her degrees were centered around Zoology and Marine Biology. She worked in the field of her degrees for several years, then decided to just try her hand at writing a novel.

Gabaldon did research for her "practice novel" the old fashioned way, through reference books and periodicals......to quote her, "the Worldwide Web did not exist back then". After posting a short excerpt of her book on CompuServe Literary Forum, an author introduced her to a literary agent. He accepted the representation of this new author based on an unfinished first novel, which she had entitled Cross Stitch. U. S. publishers changed that first book in a trilogy (that was required by contract) to Outlander.

In 2014, the Outlander series was comprised of eight published novels. In August of 2014, the Outlander tv series premiered on Starz in the U.S.

I resisted reading any Lord John stories for a very long time, despite being a huge Gabaldon fan. I just couldn't get behind a gay lead, didn't understand the appeal or potential of this character. I didn't get it, without even trying it. Recently I saw Gabaldon at a sci-fi convention, and to get in......more

I really didn’t expect to like this book as much as I did, even harboring affection for Gabaldon’s Outlander books, and especially the character of Lord John Grey, whom I find to be adorable and heartbreaking. The Lord John Grey series is a spin-off of Outlander, following Lord John Grey, a characte......more

Diana Gabaldon’s “Lord John Grey” series of novels were written in between writings of the “Outlander” novels. There are nine creations altogether, although some are novellas that have been combined together into a collection of stories. “Lord John and the Private Matter” is technically the second f......more
