Synopsis

Set in a future where humanity is colonizing planets across the Solar System, the story follows a soldier stationed on Venus. Tasked with recovering a crystal of vital strategic importance, he soon finds himself caught in a trap laid by the planet’s native, lizard-like inhabitants — a deadly labyrinth of invisible walls. The original version of the story, written by the young Kenneth Sterling (based on the idea from Edmond Hamilton's story "The Monster-God of Mamurth"), was half as long. Lovecraft rewrote the work, preserving as many original elements as possible. The writers adorned "In the Walls of Eryx" with playful references to known individuals in their surroundings (for example, "effjay weeds and slimy ackmanths" are references to the disliked Forrest J Ackerman).

On Venus there is life, a diverse fauna and flora, and an intelligent race of reptilian beings whose culture is not yet highly developed, although in some aspects such as architecture it......more

considering the context in which this story was written and the time of its creation, i cant really hate on it the way i wanted to. Started out great but the ending was so dumb and the message and social commentary was not subtle in the slightest, really you want to write a story like this that says......more

I've reading all of Lovecraft stories and this one stood up as one of the best ones. The setting is imaginative and the ending feels more focused on how garbage humanity is.......more
