Synopsis

From acclaimed fantasy author Stephen R. Lawhead comes the first installment in the Dragon King Trilogy--an epic tale of destiny, courage, and a kingdom on the brink of collapse, perfect for fans of The Wheel of Time and The Inheritance Cycle.Quentin had always thought his calling was to be an acolyte at the temple and live a simple life far from adventure or service to the crown--until a waylaid knight with a mortal wound implores the priests to finish his errand to the castle. Unsure but convicted, Quentin offers to finish the quest not knowing the fate of the kingdom rest on his shoulders. In Arthurian fashion, Quentin is thrown headfirst into the political scheming of the court where Prince Jaspin is trying to usurp the throne for himself while the King has mysteriously disappeared. As Quentin sets out to find the King, he learns that the balance of good and evil are weighing on the scales and time is running out. Tangle in a new destiny, Quentin must rely on his friends and companions as they journey towards an uncertain future filled with ancient secrets and unimaginable obstacles.Rich with Arthurian echoes, spiritual depth, and high-stakes adventure, In the Hall of the Dragon King invites readers into a world of ancient secrets, political intrigue, and a hero's journey that will shape the destiny of a realm. Perfect for fans of epic fantasy with strong coming-of-age arcs, this novel blends action, faith, and adventure into an unforgettable story--and includes discussion questions for deeper reflection.

I will admit right off the bat that I am not the target audience for this novel -- I don't generally read YA (though I'm not convinced this was originally conceived as a YA novel); I don't like quest fantasy OR Arthurian fantasy OR Christian fiction; and a coming-of-age story has to be pretty potent......more

I am grateful for the Christian values present. Didn't realize until later that this is Lawhead's first major st......more

In many respects (basic plot, characters, and setting), this is a fairly typical coming-of-age fantasy, though well-written; it was one of evan......more
