I do not remember learning that an author had not learned how to read herself until the age of 11. But that was the case with author, Julie Garwood. She missed so much school with having a tonsillectomy at age six, the nobody realized that she did not complete her education in reading, and was not discovered until age 11. Amazing that the same child would grow up as Julie Garwood, a very successful American author. Her Irish heritage was an important force in her growing, as well as adult years. She also contributes her success to being the sixth of seven children. She says that relatively early she discovered that to be noticed in such a large family, her self-expression had to be "forceful, imaginative, and quick"!!!
Garwood's loyal readers seem to enjoy her poignant sense of humor, just as well as her ability to steer her readers toward crying and falling in love. Her mission with each book is to transport her readers to another world, after which they will feel like they have been in a great adventure.
Through local writer's conferences, Garwood met her future agent, even though she had never intended to become a professional writer. She lives in Leawood Kansas, and is currently writing tell notes for her next novel.
This and Saving Grace are Julie Garwood's best books. I loved the interaction between Madelyn and Duncan. I just wish Julie had a better editor because there are a few times when she uses hackneyed phrases, etc. But story-wise, it is SO good.
Re-read: 12/11/22 Re-read: 10/17/21 I've been slowly replacing my ginormous collection of classic romance mass market paperbacks by Julie Garwood, Linda Howard, Judith McNaught, Sandra Brown, etc., as their kindle counterpart goes on sale. This one came up this week and I thought it was the perfec......more
4.5 stars This is my fourth Julia Garwood’s book and so far all of her books kind of have the same plot? But still I’m finding them so addictive to read? I guess I’m just enjoying their simplistic form so much to care. Madelyn saves Duncan who has been held captive by her brother. After setting him fr......more
4.5 stars Ah yes, just what I deserved. A proper, much belated vacation. This book was a ray of sunshine in my snow infested world (yes where I live it's still fucking snowing and it's May 2nd) This book basically had everything I didn't know I needed: ➼ Medieval England ➼ Cold, stoic, alpha hero ➼ Sweet......more
4 Stars Overall Opinion:This was better than I thought it'd be! I'm not sure why, but I just wasn't expecting all that much for some reason. I enjoyed the dialogue/banter, the characters, and their connection! It was steamier than I was expecting for a HR too! I think I need to read some more from......more
