Synopsis

History and legend combine in the gripping tale of Hakon Haraldsson, a Christian boy who once fought for the High Seat of a Viking realm.

It is 935 A.D., and the North is in turmoil. King Harald Fairhair has died, leaving the High Seat of the realm to his murderous son, Erik Bloodaxe. To solidify his claim, Erik ruthlessly disposes of all claimants to his throne, save one: his youngest brother Hakon.

Erik's surviving enemies send a ship to Wessex, where the Christian King Athelstan is raising Hakon. Unable to avoid his fate, he returns to the Viking North to face his brother and claim his birthright, only to discover that victory will demand sacrifices beyond his wildest nightmares.

About Eric Schumacher

Eric Schumacher was born in Los Angeles in 1968. He is the author of three historical fiction novels, God's Hammer and its sequels, Raven's Feast and War King.

Eric's fascination with Vikings and medieval history began at a young age, though exactly why is not clear. While Los Angeles has its own unique history, there are no destroyed monasteries or Viking burial sites or hidden hoards buried in fields. Still, from the earliest age, he was drawn to books about Viking kings and warlords and was fascinated by their stories and the turbulent times in which they lived. He began writing as a child, though never considered it as a career until he was in his second year of international business school and living in Germany. Poor timing to be sure, but better late than never. It was there that Eric began researching and writing God's Hammer, his first novel. Eric now resides in Santa Barbara with his wife, his two children, and his dog.

God’s Hammer imagines the life and ascension of Håkon Haraldsson, the youngest son of Harald the fairhaired, the first king of Norway. It is historical fiction, with an emphasis on FICTION, as little is known about this particular King Håkon except the facts stated: he was born to Thora Mosterstang......more

While still a boy, Hakon was sent to England for safekeeping and was fostered by King Athelstan, who took the trouble to raise him as a Chris......more
