Synopsis

He was born Temujin, the son of a khan, raised in a clan of hunters migrating across the rugged steppe. Temujins young life was shaped by a series of brutal acts: the betrayal of his father by a neighboring tribe and the abandonment of his entire family, cruelly left to die on the harsh plain. But Temujin enduredand from that moment on, he was driven by a singular fury: to survive in the face of death, to kill before being killed, and to conquer enemies who could come without warning from beyond the horizon. It is hard to understand how ruthless some people can be, but after reading this book you can start to see were it comes from. The characters were very well developed and the story was easy to follow. I listen in the car on my long commute and I actually wished the commute was longer so I could keep listening.

A superb job, Conn Iggulden, of adding substance, bone and marrow to the ghosts of Genghis Khan and his Golden Hordes. Mr. Iggulden is a genius at what he does.I picked up the first novel of this series randomly and, by the second chapter I was hooked on Genghis, the Mongols and wanting to know more of their history. HooRah for allowing the Golden Hordes to again ride the sands of history... telling their story anew to those of us eager to learn of it!
