Synopsis

“[A] callback to what makes Rapp such a special character, and a white-knuckle reminder of why this series remains the gold standard of the political thriller genre.” —The Real Book Spy

Don Bentley completes the trilogy begun with American Assassin by taking Mitch Rapp back to his fledgling assassin days, picking up where Kill Shot ended, on a mission to save the woman he loves amid a CIA showdown with the Russian intelligence services in a new thriller from the author of Vince Flynn’s #1 New York Times bestselling series.

The Central Intelligence Agency is in crisis.

Following the collapse of the Soviet Union, Congress is questioning the organization’s necessity. Interim CIA director Thomas Stansfield must fight for his agency’s survival while explaining why the previous candidate for his job was found murdered in a French hotel—surrounded by booze, cash, and dead men. Worst yet, a brilliantly run sting operation in Moscow has resulted in the arrest of America’s most prized Russian asset and the expulsion of his CIA handler.

With the CIA’s Moscow Station now paralyzed by the catastrophic intelligence failure, Stansfield seeks help from Mitch Rapp, a newly minted assassin in the secretive Orion program. But Rapp has problems of his own: when his Swiss girlfriend Greta’s grandfather receives a box containing the head of a former Cold War comrade along with a note promising that Greta’s head will be next, Rapp finds himself on the frontlines in a war between the American and Russian intelligence services. To protect the woman he loves and save the CIA from destruction, Rapp must be willing to risk everything.

About Vince Flynn

Vince Flynn was a graduate of Saint Thomas Academy in 1984 and the University of St. Thomas in 1989. After graduating, Flynn went to work for Kraft Foods as an account and sales marketing specialist. In 1991, he left Kraft to pursue a career as an aviator with the United States Marine Corps. One week before leaving for Officer Candidate School, he was medically disqualified from the Marine Aviation Program, due to several concussions and convulsive seizures he suffered while growing up. He had also been diagnosed with dyslexia, so in an effort to overcome the difficulties of dyslexia, Flynn forced himself into a daily writing and reading regimen.

His newfound interest in such novels motivated him to begin work on a novel of his own. While employed as a bartender in the St. Paul area, he completed his first book, “Term Limits”, which he then self-published. The book went to number one in the Twin Cities, and within a week had a new agent and two-book deal with Pocket Books, a Simon & Schuster imprint.

“Term Limits” hit the New York Times bestseller list in paperback and started a trend for all of Flynn's novels. Since then, his books have become perennial bestsellers in both paperback and hardcover, and he has become known for his research and prescient warnings about the rise of Islamic Radical Fundamentalism and terrorism. Read by current and former presidents, foreign heads of state, and intelligence professionals around the world, Flynn's novels are taken so seriously one high-ranking CIA official told his people, “I want you to read Flynn's books and start thinking about how we can more effectively wage this war on terror.”

October 2007 marked another milestone in Flynn’s career when his ninth political thriller, “Protect and Defend”, became a #1 New York Times bestseller. A few months later, CBS Films optioned the rights for Flynn’s Mitch Rapp character with the intention of creating a character-based, action-thriller movie franchise. Lorenzo di Bonaventura, as head of production at Warner Bros., and Nick Wechsler will produce the films.

Works by Flynn include American Assassin, Kill Shot, Transfer of Power, The Third Option, Separation of Power, Executive Power, Memorial Day, Consent to Kill, Act of Treason, Extreme Measures, Pursuit of Honor, The Last Man, The Survivor and Term Limits (not part of the Mitch Rapp series). He also served as a story consultant for the fifth season of the television series “24”.

On June 19, 2013, Vince Flynn died after a three-year battle with prostate cancer. He left behind his wife Lysa, whom he described as "My favorite thing about life," and their 3 children.

I received an ARC for this after being selected as a Mitch Rapp ambassador. It came at the perfect time as I read every book in the series. The Kyle Mills ones felt different at the end. Like it wasn’t about a spy novel, political thriller, or Mitch Rapp. They came off more Gray Man rather than Rapp......more

I was fortunate to receive an Advanced Readers Copy of DENIED ACCESS by Don Bentley. As part of the Mitch Rapp series, this adventure takes place early in Rapp’s career, so it is both a prequel and a sequel to the other books in the series, and it completes the American Assassin trilogy. Like all of......more

Quotes

“As a former Apache pilot and FBI SWAT member, Bentley brings a been-there-done-that authenticity that few can match. Action sequences are uniformly relentless, detailed, and sweeping. Somehow, though, they never detract from the layered storytelling critical to espionage thrillers. Take it from me, not an easy feat.”

“Author Bentley has successfully spun yarns in the Tom Clancy universe, and here he moves smoothly into Vince Flynn’s. Their writing styles and that of Kyle Mills are indistinguishable, as if they could slip into each other’s skins…Action junkies will gobble this up.”

'A cracking, uncompromising yarn that literally takes no prisoners

'Flynn perfectly measures all the ingredients for a fast and furious read

“The voice of today’s postmodern thriller generation, Flynn has never been better.” --Providence Journal

“There’s a reason [Vince Flynn] is No. 1 on the bestseller list." --The New York Post

“Flynn is a master -- maybe the master -- of writing thriller novels in which the pages seem to turn themselves.” --Bookreporter.com

"Expect a bloody, electrifying adventure that reminds readers why American assassin Mitch Rapp is still the most badass character in print today."

“A gripping story that will leave you breathless, Capture of Kill is an unyielding adrenaline rush of fierce kinetic action delivered at breakneck speed.  Don Bentley enters the Rapp-verse throwing haymakers in a full-throttle adventure of bullets, beatdowns and brinkmanship.”

Capture or Kill is every bit the white knuckle, hair-raising thrill ride that you’d expect from the former Apache pilot who wrote it. Don Bentley brings his unique insights and skills to the Rapp franchise and has crafted a story that will please even the most ardent long time fans.”
