Synopsis

At thirty-nine, Leona Accorsi is broke, single, back in school, and living in her sister Carly’s basement. She’s perfectly content being quirky Auntie Lee to Carly’s four children. That is, until Leona’s doctor tells her that if she wants to have a child, she’d better do it now.Leona does want a baby. She always has, but the circumstances have never been right. Now she has a huge decision to make: face motherhood on her own or risk missing out on its rewards.Unfortunately, she’s let her romantic life go stagnant. She barely even knows any single men. She has just a few prospects: a Vietnam vet and partial amputee, his intimidating son, the sweet but troubled man who tutors her niece, and a fellow nursing student she’s never actually met.As Leona discovers more about each one, she realizes any of them could be the right man for the job. The more important question is, has she become the right woman?

About Loretta Nyhan

Loretta Nyhan was a reader before she was a writer, devouring everything she could get her hands on, including the backs of cereal boxes and the instruction booklet for building the Barbie Dreamhouse. Later, her obsession with reading evolved into an absolute need to write. After college, she wrote for national trade magazines, taught writing to college freshmen, and eventually found the guts to try fiction. Nyhan has cowritten two historical novels with Suzanne Hayes, Empire Girls and the Kirkus-starred I’ll Be Seeing You. Her solo work includes the teen paranormal thrillers The Witch Collector Part I and The Witch Collector Part II. When she’s not writing, Nyhan is knitting, baking, and doing all kinds of things her high school self would have found hilarious. Find her online at www.lorettanyhan.com.

What a gem of a book! I’m so glad author Emily Carpenter put this one on my radar as it was such a fabulous read. So often Women’s Fiction and Chick Lit gets a bad name, as it is written off as flakey, shallow, and unrealistic; it’s almost the equivalent of porn for women. This is what Women’s Ficti......more

When Leona’s gynecologist tells her that she’s running out of time to have a baby, Leona panics and considers all her options. Adoption and fertility treatments are expensive. And since she can’t afford expensive medical visits to conceive, she purchases a glorified turkey baster to do the trick......more

This was a chick lit book that, while mostly enjoyable, I did have a few issues with. Namely this: if you are a full time student living in your sister's basement, now is NOT the time to have a baby...I don't care how old you are. And an OB/GYN would NEVER say the things this one did. Seriously. How......more

Quotes

“Deceptively lighthearted and delightfully written, All the Good Parts is the story of a woman of a certain age, pondering a dream with a timestamp: that of becoming a mother. Should she or shouldn’t she? What’s best for her? Who should the father be? Everyone weighs in on the question: her sister, her brother-in-law, her niece. Even her home healthcare clients. But the hilarity of choosing among some mighty unusual suspects is tempered with compassion and wisdom that speaks to the very heart of what matters—of what makes us matter to ourselves and each other. And the clincher? What takes All the Good Parts over the top into must-read territory? There’s a twist near the end that will leave you breathless.” —Barbara Taylor Sissel, author of Crooked Little LiesAll The Good Parts by Loretta Nyhan is a tender, warmhearted, and fast-paced story of a family finding its way through an uncertain time for everyone. Nyhan's writing delicately balances the stress and love felt between sisters Leona and Carly. Nyhan also examines the intricate dynamics of Leona's unusual friendships. These pivotal relationships are the story's backdrop as Leona decides if she's going to have a baby on her own at 39. I laughed, I cried, and I cheered, as Leona fought herself and others, stumbled, and in the end, became a better version of herself—which is always a good thing, baby or not. I read this book way past my bedtime.” —Amy Sue Nathan, author of The Good Neighbor“Leona Accorsi, 39, suddenly decides she wants a baby, simply to love. The decision leads her on a journey of self discovery and puts a unique twist on the idea of looking for love in all the wrong places. Her funny, tender, and heartfelt interactions with each of the not-necessarily-appropriate people on her short list of potential Daddy donors all ultimately bring her to new insights about herself. The story kept me smiling and wondering, ‘What's going to happen next?!’ from the first scene to the very satisfying finish.” —Jackie Bouchard, author of House Trained and Rescue Me, Maybe “Quirky and laugh-out-loud funny, we loved All the Good Parts! Nyhan had us at page one with this unique yet relatable story of the deep bonds between sisters and family and the yearning for motherhood. Readers who want to be swept up and taken on an emotional roller coaster will love All the Good Parts!” —Liz Fenton and Lisa Steinke, authors of The Year We Turned Forty and The Status of All ThingsAll the Good Parts is wildly original and features a mixture of heartfelt and laugh-out-loud moments. The main character’s quest for motherhood is poignant and relatable...[but] it’s the ensuing complexities that arise as the main character tries to find a suitable daddy donor from a varied potential list that make this story hard to put down.” RT Book Reviews“[Nyhan] creates an original and endearing contemporary heroine in Leona Accorsi...[Her] novel tells a surprising, sweet, and unconventional story about family and friendship.” Booklist
