Synopsis

On Midsummers Eve, three roleplaying teens dressed in eighteenthcentury garb are shot in a secluded Swedish meadow. When one of Inspector Kurt Wallanders most trusted colleagues, someone whose help he hoped to rely on to solve the crime, also turns up dead, Wallander knows the murders are related. But with his only clue a picture of a woman no one in Sweden seems to know, he cant begin to imagine how. Reeling from his fathers death and facing his own deteriorating health, Wallander tracks the lethal progress of the killer. Locked in a desperate effort to catch him before he strikes again, Wallander always seems to be just one step behind.

Kurt Wallander book No.7 sees Wallander and co. finding themselves always one step behind an appalling and apparently motiveless serial killer. He has health problems, his father died in the last book, he doesn't have a girlfriend, his ex-wife is getting remarried, and his confidence is completely shot. It's classic, wonderful......more

I think in many ways this is not such a memorable book, no amazing plot hooks, really, a 3 star book in terms of the story--a serial killer book, ehhh, high body count,......more
