Synopsis

New York Times bestselling author Lisa Kleypas returns to Friday Harbor with this story of two broken hearts who come together—with a little help—to make each other whole…The youngest of the Nolan brothers, Alex still bears the scars of being raised by alcoholic parents, and when his own marriage fails—as he knew it would—he sinks deeper into a whiskey bottle. His brother Sam hopes to pull him out with a project to remodel a house for a friend of his girlfriend Lucy. And Alex has another ally—the ghost of a World War II pilot, who may be a booze-induced hallucination or may be exactly the spirit he needs to guide him.Zoë Hoffman is no stranger to heartache—after her own parents abandoned her, the only family member who showed her love was her grandmother. Even after her husband’s betrayal, Zoe hasn’t given up on love. A chef at a local B&B, her dream is to give her grandmother, who’s suffering from dementia, the gift of restoring her beautiful home by the lake. When she meets a handsome but brooding carpenter named Alex, she sees beneath his wounded exterior to the man he could be.As for Alex, he may be seeing a ghost, but in Zoë’s kind eyes, he’s also starting to get a vision of a future in which love might have a place after all…

About Lisa Kleypas

Lisa Kleypas, an American author, was born in 1964, and chose the genre of Historical Romantic Novels to begin her writing career. Even when her and her mother's Texas homes were taken by a devastating flood, they both went to buy the necessities, and for both of them that included a romance novel. After her graduation from Wellesley College in Political Science, Lisa published her first book at age 21. She has been very successful writing for Avon Books with her representative being the prestigious William Morris Agency.

Lisa has been writing full time since selling that first book at 21 years of age. She has sold millions of copies around the world, and has won many writing achievement awards over the years. One non-writing achievement came when she was Miss Massachusetts in the Miss America Pageant in 1985. At only 5'2", it was a challenge to wear a banner on which was printed one of the longest state names. She did win a "talented non-finalist" award for singing an original song.

Lisa decided in 2006 to temporarily change her writing genre to contemporary romance, but she did say she plans to return to historical romance in the future. Her list of published books keeps growing, with her 2012 book, "Christmas Eve at Friday Harbor" being made into the Hallmark movie, "Christmas With Holly". In 2015, she was given the honor of emceeing the Romance Writers of America Award Show. Lisa lives in Washington with her husband, Gregory, and their two children.

But that didn’t change anything. Love would have its way. So I think I have to say that Alex *sigh*, is my favorite of the......more

Dream Lake, Washington ★★★★½ (This is a review of the audiobook.) Dream Lake is narrated by Jeff Cummings who does NOT seem to be the right fit for this one. Not a great job, but not a disaster, either. An “okay” performance. I’d probably like him better reading something else, as he has a nice voice......more
