Synopsis

Micah Bishop doesn't believe in miracles - until a derringer-packing nun busts him out of jail. But it's not Christian charity that's driving Sister Genevieve - she wants Micah to take her to a place called the Valley of Fire, deep in the most lawless and perilous part of New Mexico Territory. It was here where an order of nuns met their Maker, and it's Sister Genevieve's mission to see that they are given a proper funeral. Or so she claims. Micah's not in the habit of helping nuns, but it turns out the only true vow Genevieve ever took was to get rich - and there's a fortune in gold buried along with the sisters. With kill-crazy bandits and blood-hunting bounty hunters after them, it'll take a miracle to reach the Valley of Fire, let alone get the gold. But sometimes, the Almighty does work in mysterious ways.

I felt like a Western and this one by Johnny D. Boggs fit the bill. Western stories mainly about cowboys were among my first books and I've continued to read Westerns ever since....I would say Larry McMurtry is my favorite Western author, but there are others I enjoy reading and Boggs is one of them......more

This book has more two-legged varmits and mean hombres than the Ok Corral. Throw in a kind of shady but good-hearted-in-spite-of-himself "hero", a spunky sometimes-nun as the heroine, a blind, one-armed all-the-time nun as a sidekick, a treasure in gold hidden in a hell hole that could kill a rattle......more

A cowboy and nun meet in a jail in New Mexico is how this story begins and a wild adventure it is. This a page turner with twist and turns, ghost and bodies littered along the way to the Valley of Fire. I enjoyed this western and willing to see what the writer has next.......more

Johnny Boggs is one western writer who gets it all right. He understands that everyone didn't carry a Colt .45, though the "Peacemaker" is known as the gun that won the west there were a number of other guns floating around. Boggs has done his research and demonstrates an in-depth knowledge of front......more

So far, I'd have to say this is my least favorite of Johnny D. Boggs's books. There wasn't anything really wrong with it, not really, other than kind of dragging in places and having a predictable ending. Valley of Fire follows more adventures of Micah Bishop. Or maybe this is the first. I don't know......more
