Synopsis

When Jill Morgan left Tempest Island after high school, she didn’t know what she wanted to do the rest of her life. The only thing she’d ever loved was writing fiction, but that was a pursuit with no financial guarantees. So she did the responsible thing and got her college degree, then a job that provided a good living, and she wrote in her free time. She never expected to become a bestseller, but her books—written under a pseudonym—brought her millions of happy readers.

And a stalker.

When her identity is compromised, Jill decides to disappear until the cops can identify the man threatening her. Her first thought is returning to Tempest Island, one of the many places her father was stationed with the Navy, and the only one that had ever felt like home. Plus, she had connections there who could help her remain off radar. It was just a matter of time until the cops had her stalker in custody and Jill could get back to normal. But being on Tempest Island again brings back old memories and creates some new ones, forcing her to take a hard look at her carefully crafted life.

Can she build a new life for herself on Tempest Island? Or will the stalker end that journey before it even gets started?

About Jana DeLeon

New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Jana DeLeon was raised in southwest Louisiana among the bayous and gators. Her hometown is Carlyss, but you probably won't find it on a map. Her family owned a camp located on a bayou just off the Gulf of Mexico that you could only get there by boat. The most important feature was the rope hammock hanging in the shade on a huge deck that stretched out over the water where Jana spent many hours reading books. Jana and her brother spent thousands of hours combing the bayous in a flat-bottom aluminum boat, studying the natural habitat of many birds, nutria and alligators. She would like you to know that no animals were injured during these "studies," but they kept makers of peroxide in business. Jana has never stumbled across a mystery or a ghost like her heroines, but she's still hopeful. She now resides in Dallas, Texas, with her husband and the most spoiled Sheltie in the world.

We're all used to hearing about lawyers playing "the race card", but in Undertow, the typical scenario is reversed. Attorney Rayna Martin, who fights for the rights of the disadvantaged, sponsors a boating party for her daughter Keesha's 16th birthday. Only three girls have been invited, and only on......more

Undertow by Sydney Bauer. The first in the David Cavanaugh crime series and debut novel for this writer. A tragedy occurs, a young life is lost and the parents want someone to pay. The main claim of the defense in this 'courtroom' novel seems to be that the drowning was no ones fault. I do disagree with this premise. Leaving a teenager to 'float' while you take a boat to rescue others who are supposed to be in trouble is just stupid. At the least you could throw a life jacket......more

The writing was good and the story moved along at a good pace, but, it was more a novel about racism and bigotry than it was about political power. I may have enjoyed it more if that was the type of novel I was looking for, but it wasn't what I was looking for, and the bigots in the novel were almos......more

2.5 stars Too many characters Author spent a lot of time giving too many backstory which took away from the main plot. I finished the book out of mere curiosity of the ending and not necessarily because I was enjoying the book.......more
