But nowhere is truly safe—not from long-buried secrets, or murder.… When the nude body of prep school student Kate Townsend is found near the Mississippi River, Penn’s best friend, Drew Elliott, is desperate for his counsel. An esteemed family physician, Drew makes a shocking confession that could put him on death row. Penn will do all he can to exonerate Drew, but in a town where the gaze of a landmark cemetery statue—the Turning Angel—never looks away, Penn finds himself caught on the jagged edge of blackmail, betrayal, and deadly violence.“Turning Angel will have you wondering where Greg Iles has been all your life.” —USA Today

About Greg Iles

Author, Greg Iles, even though born in Germany, grew up in Natchez, Mississippi. His father was a physician who was the Supervisor of the U.S. Embassy Medical Clinic, in Stuttgart, Germany. Being raised in Natchez, most of his novels were set in that area.

Greg graduated from the University of Mississippi and was active in a band called, "Frankly Scarlett"........ assuming taken from the most famous line of Rhett Butler in the movie, "Gone With the Wind". The band was somewhat successful, but Iles decided not to tour because of time spent away from family. With more time post band, Greg began writing. Since he also wrote lyrics, it was a convenient transition from song writing to novels.

His first novel was, "Spandau Phoenix", a suspense thriller about Nazis, Rudolf Hess. Then came the screenplay, "24 Hours", that was rewritten and renamed, "Trapped". It was after that that Iles was seriously injured in an automobile accident. He lost a leg below the knee, and requiring a three-year recovery. In that time span he wrote a trilogy that was set in Natchez, which featured former prosecutor, Penn Cage.

Iles came full circle when he joined a band comprised of other authors......quite a who's who......Dave Barry, Ridley Pearson, Stephen King, Scott Turow, Amy Tan, MitchAlbom, Roy Blount, Jr., and James McBride. Iles lives in Natchez with his wife and three daughters.

This was at the core a murder mystery with a fairly engaging lawyer/writer Penn Cage. He is a good core character, but what ruined it for......more

He and his close friend, Andrew Elliot, a much loved internist, both living in the town of Natchez, Mississip......more

If you're just reading Greg Iles for the first time, here's his advice on the order in which to read his books: If you have just read Turning Angel, you should next read The Quiet Game, the novel in which Penn Cage first appeared, and which many readers believe is my best book. Blood Memory was writt......more

Goodreads review by Lewis

I have enjoyed other novels by Greg Iles, but this one was disappointing, on several levels. For one thing, it was way too long; I found myself skimming through scenes that didn't seem to me to be either essential or interesting, including the ending, which should have been a high point but wasn't.......more
