this is a great read ... even when I was able to see what was coming, it was presented so well I kept turning the pages (metaphorically, since I read it on kindle) ... good characters, good law scenes, maybe a little excess on the violence ... the best thing I can say is that I immediately bought th......more

Astounded this is rated at more than 4 stars here. I was a bit suspicious when the only blurbs on this trade paperback were from two obscure writers -- not Publisher's Weekly or even a newspaper I'd heard of -- and suspicions were well-founded. The guy who compared him to Grisham was clearly peddling......more

This is the debut novel of Robert Bailey. For a first book I am impressed and if he writes more books I will buy them. I found it exciting to have a different type of protagonist in this story. Not the usual handsome young, know it all, action hero but in this story we have a sixty-eight year old mal......more

An excellent legal thriller. Tom McMurtrie (a/k/a "The Professor") wrote the book on evidence in the state of Alabama, is suddenly forced to resign from the University of Alabama law school by a former protégé (now prosecutor), thought to be a friend. At the same time, he is approached by an old fla......more

Quotes

“Taut, page-turning, and smart, The Professor is a legal thriller that will keep readers up late as the twists and turns keep coming. Set in Alabama, it also includes that state’s greatest icon, one Coach Bear Bryant. In fact, the Bear gets things going with the energy of an Alabama kickoff to Auburn. Robert Bailey knows his state and he knows his law. He also knows how to write characters that are real, sympathetic, and surprising. If he keeps writing novels this good, he’s got quite a literary career before him.” —Homer Hickam, #1 New York Times bestselling author of Rocket Boys and October Sky

“Gripping from the first page to the last.” —Winston Groom, author of Forrest Gump
