Synopsis

Lucie Montgomery's semi-estranged brother, Eli, calls her in France to tell her their father, Leland, has been killed in a hunting accident on the family's five hundred acre Virginia vineyard. But the vineyard is now shabby and run-down and her siblings want to sell it. Then Lucie's godfather tells her Leland's death was no accident. With her greedy brother, hell-raising sister, and a seemingly cut-rate vintner hired by Leland just before he died, all the suspects are disturbingly close to home. Unsure whom she can trust, Lucie must uncover the truth—and oversee a successful harvest—to save the vineyard she loves.

I really learned a lot about the history of Virginia wine, wine making, grapes, etc. That's great. I live in Virginia and that was one of the reasons why I thought the book would be interesting to read/hear. The main reason I was interested in the book was the MURDER. By the end of this story if the narrator/main character had been killed I would have been happy and she would have deserved it for being stupid. The people of Virginia are slow southerns, with accents from Gone with the Wind. While the main character has lived in France for the last two years, so of course she is smarter than everyone else. Yet, she never has any idea what is going on? The book doesn't end, it just stops. I looked up Ellen Crosby and she did write additional books. Neither this site nor my library offers audiobooks. So maybe the MURDER part of the books got better. Like I said the wine part and the Virginia history was excellent. The southern accents were awful. August 7, 2010, Middleburg, Virginia. Don't get me wrong - the murder mystery i......more
