Synopsis

James Bond has been partnered with an Israeli Mossad agent, Pete Natkowitz, and assigned to work with the KGB to infiltrate a terrorist group. The group, The Scales of Justice, are demanding the trial of a suspected Nazi war criminal and each day of delay brings another death.Posing as a TV crew, Bond and the other agents attempt to discover the group’s real motive. About John Gardner

John Gardner (1933-1982) was born in Batavia, New York. His critically acclaimed books include the novels Grendel, The Sunlight Dialogues, and October Light, for which he received the National Book Critics Circle Award, as well as works of nonfiction and criticism such as On Becoming a Novelist. He was also a professor of medieval literature and a pioneering creative writing teacher whose students included Raymond Carver and Charles Johnson.

A friend described this as Gardner writing the book he wanted to write and bolting Bond on to it, which is a fair summary of a fairly odd plot. Gardner's not an awful writer (though he's also not a good one); my main issue is that his Bond doesn't speak and act the way Fleming's does.......more
