Synopsis

Samuel Rutherford, born in the early 1600's, faced many hardships throughout his personal and spiritual life. Despite the criticism of his faith, imprisonment for the advocacy of the church, and his exile from his beloved hometown, Rutherford was still able to inspire the people of Scotland with his preaching. Rutherford is still an inspiration in the world of Christianity today through the letters he had written, some of which can be found in The Loveliness of Christ.

About Samuel Rutherford

Samuel
Rutherford (1600–1661) was a Scottish minister and covenanter
best known for his political book, Lex
Rex; or, The Law and the Prince, for which he was charged with high treason and imprisoned. The book argued for limited government, as well
as limitations on the current idea of the divine right of kings.

Other highlights include the portions on children of saints dying, the section on Christ's ransom for our sins,......more

The quotes are deep, but without the context of the entire letter, they sometimes come across as random. Oh, man. Rutherford is so "other", so not-modern. Like my frien......more
