The Listening Pact

When every word can save a life—or place one in danger—who gets to control the story? After a landslide isolates three mountain communities, archivist Faith Morales is stranded inside a failing audio-library van with dwindling batteries and one fragile radio connection. Bellwether has generators, Las Piedras holds refrigerated medicine, and Saint Orra controls the only possible trail—but none can survive alone. To build a rescue plan, Faith must revive the listening pact, a consent-based protocol requiring every need, offer, translation, and recording permission to be verified. Her reluctant collaborator is Hope Rogers, the former partner whose trust she shattered during a previous evacuation. As political pressure mounts and Ada Evans promotes a faster, centralized claim, buried evidence exposes the failures Faith and Hope have carried since winter. Why you will love this
