Synopsis

Shipwrecked and desperate, Edward Prendick is marooned on a remote volcanic island that serves as a grisly laboratory for the disgraced Dr. Moreau. What begins as a struggle for survival in this Science Fiction / Action & Adventure classic quickly spirals into a descent into absolute Horror.
Inside the "House of Pain," Moreau practices extreme vivisection to warp animals into humanoid "Beast People." These creatures live under "The Law," a fragile set of prohibitions designed to suppress their primal instincts through fear and repetition. As Prendick observes the clinical cruelty of Moreau, he realizes the barrier between man and beast is thinner than he ever imagined.
This narrative explores the ethics of unrestricted research and the inevitable Science Fiction / Apocalyptic & Post-Apocalyptic collapse of a man-made social order. If you are a fan of Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein or the dark psychological depth of H.P. Lovecraft, you will love The Island Of Doctor Moreau.
A vital addition to any Science Fiction / Collections & Anthologies, this work predates the genre's later obsession with Space Exploration or Alien Contact, focusing instead on the "alien" within our own biology. For readers of Anthologies (multiple authors) looking for the roots of biological dread, this masterpiece remains a chilling reminder that the beast within never truly dies.
