The best thing about this novel is all the information it contains about Malta in the Second World War. Like Mills' other novels, it's more about conveying a time, place, atmosphere and characters than about the mystery taking place against this backdrop. A reasonable read but to be fair WW2 isn't the subject matter I'd normally choose & I did prefer it to "The Savage Garden".
