Synopsis

What happens when the past refuses to stay silent? When Mab and Nessa's mother died and their father disappeared to New Zealand, their lives changed forever. But the loss of their parents wasn’t the only thing that cast a shadow over their childhood… Twenty years later, when Mab and Nessa receive the news of their estranged father’s death, it stirs up a storm of long-buried memories and emotions. Now, as they navigate their complicated grief, the sisters are forced to confront the haunting events of the fateful summer when they were sent to stay at Lowlands, the sprawling country estate of their father’s first wife, Con. When they return to Lowlands, the walls of silence that have kept the past hidden begin to crumble. And when the truth emerges, it proves to be more complex and more devastating than any of them could have imagined. The House of Echoes is a gripping novel about the ties that bind us, the secrets that divide us, and the healing that comes when the truth is finally revealed.

The House of Echoes is a masterclass in dual-time historical fiction, with two stories strong enough to stand alone. The 1500s weren’t a great time to be a woman. This is a book about li......more

Once upon a time I used to read a lot of Tudor books. A lot. There were books telling straight history like Phillipa Gregory, there were books where a member of the court was investigating various plots and murders, great books like Legacy by Susan Kay and you know, some that weren't so great. The e......more
