The Friday Signal

In the summer of 1994, time moved differently. There were no cell phones, no internet, and no screens glowing in the dark bedrooms of Oakridge. If you wanted to talk to your friends after dinner, you turned on a walkie-talkie and hoped the batteries weren't dead.
For Sam, Leo, Maya, and Jake, the walkie-talkies were everything. They spent their days riding bicycles through the dusty lanes of the small town and their evenings listening to the static on channel seven.
Except on Fridays.
