Synopsis

‘The world is never-ending. I never realized just how much space there is – how far and wide the water around our island stretches out. Somewhere in the back of my mind, I may have believed that a second Wall ran around Tresco, containing the infinite waters so we wouldn't all wash over the edge and plummet down into the depths.' Leia and Walt are on their way to the Other Side, where the legendary land of Cornwall awaits them. Tony, their new friend, has told them that all wars of the past have been forgotten and the citizens of Bodmin and Dartmoor live in peace. People adhere to the tenets of an old religion that preaches forgiveness and non-violence. However, Walt and Leia soon discover that even a peace-loving, ideal society like this one may have its flaws. While on a forbidden trip to Exeter, the old city of their ancestors, the two Islanders discover more about the new world than they ever bargained for. Secrets run dark and passions run deep in this thrilling conclusion to the Island novella series.

Full disclosure: I have a story in this book, but, there's 99 other stories in here that aren't mine, and they're really quite good. This is my first 100 word horror read from any publisher, and having the entire thing themed -- some more vaguely than others -- around watery horror was bound to be a......more

3/5 tentacles These microbites of marine horror feature everything from sirens to krakens to waterlogged corpses. The poetry outshone most of the stories for me, my fave being by Renata Pavrey. A few of the more original/standout microfic pieces were those by Nico Bell, Patrick Barb, and Thomas E. St......more

Microfiction can be magic bottled into tiny jars waited to be consumed. Others may find it unsatisfying for it's mere taste of content. For me, this collection added a dropper to the jar and allowed me to dispense the tales at my own risk. It was enjoyable to traverse a variety of different styles an......more

Great collection of short and sweet stories. I enjoyed the variety of topics - it doesn't just contain the things that immediately spring to mind when you think of water-based horror, but branches out to more inventive takes on the theme as well. Some of the stories have much more impact than you'd......more
