Gifford Pinchot was an American forester who is widely regarded as the founder of scientific forestry and one of the leaders of the conservation movement in the US. Pinchot believed natural resources should be managed wisely for “the greatest good, for the greatest number, for the longest time.” Unlike preservationists who wanted wilderness left untouched, Pinchot supported the careful, scientific use of forests, water, and minerals to benefit society. In 1905, under President Theodore Roosevelt, Pinchot became the first chief of the United States Forest Service. Together, Roosevelt and Pinchot greatly expanded federal forest reserves and promoted conservation as a national policy.
Peter Lerman has narrated over 200 audiobooks, primarily nonfiction. His list includes many biographies and memoirs, books on politics, government, science, medicine and business. In 2022 he received an Earphones Award from AudioFile Magazine for one of his narrations.
