Synopsis

NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • In the eighth book in The Iron Druid Chronicles, two-thousand-year-old Druid Atticus O’Sullivan faces the clan of vampires who have been bent on destroying him—including Leif, his former best friend turned enemy.

When a Druid lives as long as Atticus does, he’s bound to run afoul of a few vampires—make that legions of them. Even his former friend and legal counsel turned out to be a bloodsucking backstabber. Now the toothy troublemakers—led by power-mad pain-in-the-neck Theophilus—are no longer content to live undead and let live. Atticus needs to make a point—and drive it into a vampire’s heart.

As always, Atticus wouldn’t mind a little backup. But his allies have problems of their own. Ornery archdruid Owen Kennedy is having a wee bit of troll trouble: Turns out when you stiff a troll, it’s not water under the bridge. Meanwhile, Granuaile is desperate to free herself of the Norse god Loki’s mark and elude his powers of divination—a quest that will bring her face-to-face with several Slavic nightmares.

As Atticus globe-trots to stop his vampire nemesis, the journey leads to Rome. What better place to end an immortal than the Eternal City? But poetic justice won’t come without a price: In order to defeat Theophilus, Atticus may have to lose an old friend.

About Kevin Hearne

Maybe being born and raised in Arizona has had an influence on American author, Kevin Hearne. Since many UFO stories come from the western states who have wide open spaces, maybe Hearne got the idea of being an urban fantasy novelist. Growing up hearing about UFO sightings perhaps gave him a bigger interest than most in the fantasy subject.

Hearne is the author of novels published by Del Rey in the fantasy book series, The Iron Druid Chronicles, plus the 2015 Star Wars novel, Heir to the Jedi. Prior to his writing career, he was a high school English teacher. He moved from Arizona to Colorado. He now lives there with his wife and son. He is known as a "tree hugger", likes dogs, and heavy metal.

Books to come out very soon are......Besieged, a collection of new Iron Druid stories, to be out July 11, and A Plague of Giants, the first book of The Seven Kennings, to be out in October.

There's a lot to love here and a small portion of sausage, too. Or actually, there's a ton of sausage and other massive meat products being consumed in this novel by a certain hound, but more importantly, this novel is practically All Meat. I mean, aside from a few Doggie BathTime stories, we're inun......more

This is really just 2/3 of a good book, The Granuille chapters suck so badly I dropped it two stars. I was a huge fan of the series from the first book, being a huge fan of Celtic mythology. New takes on that pantheon were always welcome to me. I have taken the journey with Atticus and Oberon agains......more

Reviewed by: Rabid Reads. After SHATTERED, I had concerns that THE IRON DRUID CHRONICLES may be taking on water with an excess of POVs, mythologies and threads. STAKED slowed its roll a bit by limiting the amount of chapters from Owen and Granuaile’s perspectives, and I certainly can’t find fault in......more

I didn't have high hopes for this one after being severely disappointed with the previous instalment but it still managed to disappoint me all the same. There was a lot of back and forth, literally travelling back and forth between planes and countries, a whole bunch of characters running all over t......more
