Ralph Compton stood six-foot-eight without his boots. His first novel in the Trail Drive series, The Goodnight Trail, was a finalist for the Western Writers of America Medicine Pipe Bearer Award for best debut novel. He was also the author of the Sundown Rider series and the Border Empire series. A native of St. Clair County, Alabama, Compton worked as a musician, a radio announcer, a songwriter, and a newspaper columnist before turning to writing westerns. He died in Nashville, Tennessee in 1998.

i don't read them often but every now and then i enjoy an old fashioned Western. i don't like Ralph Compton as much as Louis L'amour or Zane Grey but he'll do. interesting story line and i was rooting for Charlie all the way.......more
A pretty fair western until the ending which leaves to many unanswered questions and is kind of a jumbled up mess. Too bad. Story is of a young man who gets in with the wrong crowd and is accused of a murder he didn't commit.......more
I like a western here and there but this one didn’t really keep me engaged. I like the idea of it but I felt like it dragged on too long and could have been better.......more
