Synopsis

Eileen has never been interested in love. Ever since her father's abandonment, she's vowed to never experience such pain again. But the enchanted forest has different ideas. When the continuously shifting pathways lead her to a mysterious stranger, Eileen finds her promise to fiercely guard her heart increasingly difficult to keep.

One night when she becomes lost in a storm, the enchanted forest's pathways lead her to the castle, home to the kingdom's Dark Prince, where Eileen finds herself entangled in what many consider an opportunity but which Eileen believes to be a curse: competing for the Dark Prince's hand through a series of tests that judge one's royal worth. Eileen is neither royal nor interested in becoming a princess. But the mysterious stranger she met in the woods has his own reasons for helping her succeed, although the cost of his assistance may be too high: that of Eileen's heart, the one thing she's vowed never to give.

I picked up this book mostly for its nostalgia value. But the backstories of the Voyager crew members were too similar (sudden, violent deaths of family members, romance at the academy, etc.), the premise a little contrived, and the later stories a bit lengthy and tiresome. The writing was occasiona......more

Alight now .. I appreciate what this book was trying to do. It was a well written story which provided the framework to give the back story to many of our favorite characters. At first, I loved these flashbacks as I always wanted to know about the life of some of my favorite Voyager characters befor......more

Character development is essential to a good story. Even characters whose deeds are shrouded in mystery need some exposition. This is the essence of a compelling narrative. Random archetypes appearing on the page are a cheat—a disservice to the audience. With an episodic serial limited by running ti......more

As a Star Trek tie in novel, this is a fun one, giving back story for various members of the Voyager crew. B'Elanna's visit to the Klingon homeworld as a child. The story of how a teenager from a Native American isolationist tribe elects to join Starfleet. Tom Paris' real crime. And Tuvok. Tuvok is......more
